However, for the purpose of decentralization of agricultural planning and development this division is broken down into 4 agricultural districts namely, Kuching, Siburan (falls within Kuching administrative district), Bau and Lundu.

Major agricultural activities carried out by the farming population in Kuching Division include market gardening which supply fruits and vegetables to the city, pepper and coconut cultivation, livestock rearing like poultry and ruminant animals (small scale only), and aqua culture (commercial breeding of fresh and brackish water fish in ponds and floating cages and the rearing of tiger prawn particularly in coastal areas of Kuching and Lundu districts). Plantation/estate crop like oil palm are found in estates in Lundu and Bau districts only.

The Divisional Agriculture Office is headed by an Agriculture Officer with the rank of Assistant Director of Agriculture whereas all the District Agriculture Office are headed by and Assistant Agriculture Officer. Besides each district has its own Area Farmers Organisation Office which is located at the same site as the District Agriculture Office. Area Farmers Organisation are set up under the Farmers Organisation Act, and in Sarawak it is under the purview or is part of the Department of Agriculture organisational structure since most of its staff are employees from the Department of Agriculture, who are being placed there on attachment. Its office is being managed by a General Manager, an Assistant Agric. Officer category. Area Farmers Organisation handles all commercial activities of the Department of Agriculture like marketing farm produce from its members and selling agricultural or farm inputs to them. Its role is only to provide an alternative market outlet to the existing individually owned  market outlets or retail and wholesale market.
