INTRODUCTION

Sibu Division covers the total area of approximately 8,278.75 square kilometers of which only about 24% is made up of Class II and Class III soils which are suitable for agricultural crops, the rest is made up of inland localities or rugged topography and peat. The Division comprises of 3 districts of which its basic information as described below.

In the Division, the industrial crops development are currently concentrating mainly on pepper while oil palm is recently picking up mainly by private plantation. Padi, Orchard and vegetables are developed for the Division Food Production Progrommes. Livestock  and inland fish farming  continue to support  food production activities-activities and are  confined mainly in Sibu and Kanowit Districts as they are easily accessible by land transport.

Like other Divisions, Sibu Agriculture Division implement various programmes as to meet the needs of its resident. The Major Food Production programmes include of Crop Division, livestock, Inland Fisheries and WEDA with its various supporting services such Farmers' Organisation, Agricultural Human Reseource Development  (ATC) and Research Section and others that are related for the smoothness of the industries development.
