FUNCTION
- Undertaking aquaculture research on freshwater and brackish water fish species covering aspects of culture techniques, breeding techniques, water qualities, nutrition and disease
- Undertaking research on indigenous fish including aspects of reproductive and feeding ecology, artificial breeding and rearing in captivity.
- Implementation of aquaculture development schemes.
- Upgrading the technical capability of fisheries staff.
- Provision of advisory and extension services to the farmers, fishermen and aquaculture entrepreneurs.
- Conducting training courses for farmers and fishermen on aquaculture and conservation of fisheries resources.
- Production of fish fry for stocking in farmers' ponds and for reseeding rivers and lakes
- Enforcement of the State Fisheries Ordinance, 2003
INLAND FISHERIES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES
Objective:
To develop and promote inland fisheries and aquaculture industry in the State into one which is commercially viable, capable of providing reliable source of income and characterised by sustainable production system.
