LIMBANG: Subis Farmers Organisation has retained its status as the most successful in  the state while Mustapha Raja Siwa from Bario and Unit Rapak B of Sri Aman grabbed the Farmers and Farmers Organisation Unit Role Model 2012 awards respectively.

Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud presented the awards to the winners during the opening of the state-level 27th Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day here on Saturday.

Subis Farmers Organisation has grown from strength to strength over the years. It is now a major business entity with business volume well over RM30 million.

Meanwhile, in the Veterinary Category, Charles Yap from Lundu won the award for cattle integration while Ngu Tiong Uong from Jalan Oya Sibu bagged the small ruminant award.

The other winners are Dayang Haspariza Awang Tajudin (Outstanding Agro-based Industry Entrepreneur), Azura Jaini (Most Promising Agro-based Entrepreneur), Daniel Brahim from Sarikei (Cluster Crop Farming), and Yong Siaw Wu from Miri (Vegetable Farming).

Under the Fisheries Category, Sandy Lim Hock Kui from Kuching won for Caged  Fish Culture, Chai Choon Boon, Riam (Pond Fish Culture), and Long Lidung from Lawas (Tagang Project).

PNK Beladin won the Most Successful Women Fishermen Group while Mohamad Safri Jack from the same organisation won the Top Catch Category.

Sanah@Kesuma Usop was named Fisheries Processing Entrepreneur of the Year.

In the Commodities (Rubber) Category, Bujang Ajis from Kampung Melano, Nicha Jibieng from Serian and Kampung Lubok Segantang were named winners of the Young Rubber Smallholders, Mature Rubber Smallholders, and Cluster Group respectively.

Over 1,000 people attended the opening ceremony of the Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen at the Limbang Silver Jubilee Waterfront.

Among those present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Alfred Jabu Numpang, who is also Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Awang Asfia Awang Nassar, Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Minister of Housing Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
